Roman Foreshore Walk

This is an announcement of our first foreshore walk since 2019.  You’ll be receiving this as you are signed up to receive our blog posts.

“This is amazing. I never knew you could be so closely in touch with ancient London.”  Clayground foreshore walk participant.

We have decided to introduce a specialist foreshore walk with a focus on Roman London, led as always by Clayground Associate Archaeologist, Mike Webber.  It will take place on Sunday 10th October 10.00-12.30.

Clayground is working with the Friends of the Highgate Roman kiln to restore ancient ceramic workings and create an education centre in Highgate Wood, North London. To learn more about the development of Roman London, the next walk will illuminate important Roman sites beside the Thames before going onto the foreshore to discover traces of Roman life.

The walk will start near Mansion House, visit the Queenhithe London history mosaic, before going down onto the foreshore to look for fragments of Roman pottery. More directions will be sent on booking.

Cost of this specialist walk is £25.00 per adult. There are just 2 discounted child places at £15.00 for ages 8-17. Please use the promo code CHILD if you wish to book for children. Please note only 2 child places per walk are available and 8 is the minimum age.

Please be aware that the foreshore can be dangerous. It is not suitable for anyone who experiences difficulty using steps or walking on uneven ground.

Please do not plan to bring a dog.

Clayground is licensed for group walks by the Port of London Authority.
